Delivery was fine, contents relatively well packaged and secured. Assembly was easy enough. But depth adjustment handle was installed backward at the factory with a very, very tight nut on the floating spring. I had to turn it around once I realized that was the problem based on pictures of what it should look like in the correct position.
The Honda engine started well; I will only run alcohol free gas.
Throttle remote axle nut took some tightening to stay put during vibration, not a big deal.
I got about 20 minutes of operation before the factory belt shredded. Yes, I was slowly cutting some thick grass edges at about 3/4 of full depth. The shroud housing around the blade tends to collect packed grass. I don't know if that was adding drag to the blade such that the belt rubbed.
After ordering and installing a Saidico 30 inch 4L-300 belt (a replacement and a spare), the unit is running well.
The square rubber "mud flap" guard held onto the blade housing by a comb of metal tabs came off early in use. It was easy enough to put back in but the tabs don't hold so well. I've left it off so grass doesn't pile up when moving forward.
For a heavily grown edge, I find it easier to use pulling the edger backwards so grass doesn't pile up under the blade and wheels. After the first cut, the next cuts seemed to clear ok by pushing forwards. I've used it both on sidewalk for typical edging and in grass when edging along landscaping pavers. I sure wish it had an edge guide to minimize the blade striking the concrete, but I understand that's how the pros use it. I'll just practice.
It really is a good edger, and Honda should last forever.
I've used it now through several more rounds of much trimming and it's doing fine, starts with a pull or two, cuts well. I'd buy it again.
